About

DJ Cheeks Bio

Music is my life, music is my heart, music is my soul…

My roots are vast and wide, from new York/ New Jersey area to South
Florida. Raised by a dynamic woman, who did what was necessary to
keep a family of five kids together after the loss of
their mother, her daughter,
. My grandmother, although she might not have had the
same appreciation for Hip Hop music (mixing and scratching) or in her
words, “that noise”, she is my support and instrumental in my
development and growth into the person that I am today.

As a DJ, I got a late start in life. Although, my interest started
around age 12, I was not able to actually touch a set of turntables
and a mixer until I turned 18. At that time, I was able to purchase
my own set-up. I did a lot of watching, listening and learning.

With the help of my brother Cyco who helped me purchase
most of the equipment. I was able to jump start my career in DJ-ing.
I credit the great DJ Red Alert with awakening my spirit and interest in
mixing and DJ-ing. I spent days on end taking in his five o’clock
Free Ride Show on Hot 97. This peaked my interest. Red Alert really
ripped it! This is what I aspired to do.

At this point, I also took an interest in the Universal Zulu Nation.
Being the first and largest Hip Hop organization on earth was only one
of my reasons to join. I wanted to be a part of something that was
the beginning of this music we call Hip Hop. UZN introduced me to
many new experiences and I was able to network and meet others who
shared my love of this music, including the Amun-Ra of Hip Hop
Culture, the Legendary godfather himself, Afrika Bambaataa.

Along my journey, i was still not as confident as I could have been.
I never really thought my skills were ready to be heard by the general
public. I kept my DJ skills hidden, mainly because I was afraid of
what people might think of me.

It has been some years now since I have taken charge of my life as a
DJ. I decided that it was time to step up and put myself, and my
vision, out into the mainstream. I believe it is time for a
revolution, therefore, my company is named REVOLU-SHON.COM. Its
meaning is still the same, but I chose to alter the spelling…the
make my point of change or bringing about a change.

My vision, for now is Real Hip Hop. My vision for now is mixtapes. My
vision for now is pushing forward with my dream of reviving and
re-awakening the True-School of Hip Hop.

I spin records. I am a DJ…

They call me DJ Cheeks

Peace
